The Digital Studio

Your 24/7 host, server,
and cashier.

We build the site that works a shift, turns a passerby into a regular, runs your digital storefront while you’re closed, and keeps your margin where it belongs.

What we build

One website, with everything running through it.

Not a brochure. The place people order from.

One menu

One menu. One price. Everywhere they find you.

They walk in already decided. They wave off the menu and order something nobody in that kitchen has made in years.

That is an eight year old menu still sitting online somewhere, still doing the ordering for you. Every menu with your name on it should be the one you are actually serving tonight.

Somebody looking you up at seven o’clock might land on Google, on your website, or on an ordering page. They should see the same menu and the same price on all three.

You set the price. It is the same price wherever they find it.

  • The menu is yours — the items, the descriptions, the photographs, the prices. Not a version somebody else typed up.
  • It gets kept current — your website, your ordering page and your Google listing carry the same menu you are actually serving.
  • The order comes through your page — so the price they pay is the price you set, and the margin stays where it belongs.

The menu that sells

A menu that reads like a POS screen doesn’t make anybody hungry.

Toast is one of the great POS companies, and their online ordering works.

What they hand you is the controls — the brand color field, the font, the banner slot. What they don’t hand you is the design. Somebody still has to fill those fields in, and know what to put in them.

So a lot of ordering pages end up as a plain list. No photographs. Item names typed the way the kitchen types them. Nothing on the screen that makes anybody want to eat.

This is what that looks like on a real screen. Somebody is deciding where to eat right now, and this is what they got.

  1. No photograph. A grey tile where the food should be. Nobody has been made hungry by a grey tile.
  2. The kitchen’s shorthand. “CHZ BURGER” is what gets typed on a ticket. It is not what anybody would order out loud.
  3. Nothing about the food. No description. What is on it, what it comes with, why it is the one to get — none of it is there.
  4. Set like a receipt. Monospaced capitals. It reads like the register, because that is where the type came from.
  5. Drinks first, food buried. The tab order came out of the back office, not out of what somebody is hungry for.
  6. The sign-up offer outranks dinner. It is the first colored thing on the screen, sitting above every plate you make.
  7. A name nobody can order from. Filed under salads, with nothing under it. Is it a salad, a platter, a sandwich? Whoever is hungry is not going to gamble twelve dollars to find out.
  8. Half of every card is empty. The room for the description is right there, sitting blank, on every single item.

We design on top of the system you already run.

Your palette, your type, your photography, your words for your own food — sitting on the ordering you already have, so nothing about your Tuesday changes.

Same rule as the branding studio — we appeal to the senses every chance we get. A menu is one of those chances.

  • No photograph
  • No description
  • Ticket shorthand for a name
  • Nothing that says whose kitchen it came out of

Designed on top of it

A designed online menu with the brand at the top, photography, descriptions and prices
  • The brand is on it — the mark, the name, and the line about the river, before anything else.
  • A photograph of every plate — the actual food, shot to be wanted.
  • A description under each name — what is on it, in the words you would use.
  • The price, and one tap to add it — nothing between wanting it and ordering it.
  • Happy hour running at the top — the offer where somebody actually sees it.
  • Categories in the order people order in — starters first, not the back office’s list.

When it never sits still

Some menus change faster than a design can hold.

A taphouse where the draft list turns over every week. A kitchen running breakfast, lunch and dinner off three different menus. The special that is gone by Thursday.

Designing that once does not hold it. So we built the thing that does.

Served™ — our interactive menu, and a product of this studio.

Swap a handle and the tap list swaps with it. The menu on the table is the one you are actually pouring and plating, without anybody rebuilding a page for it.

You can open it right now. No login, no form.

That is a real restaurant’s menu, running. Tap around it — nothing you do in there touches anybody’s kitchen.

The whole deal

The code on the table, and the ad on their feed.

All of it comes out of the same brand book.

Same mark, same type, same colors, whether it is sitting six inches from their plate or on a phone across town.

Back where we started

Your doors close at night. Your digital venue never does.

It is on at two in the morning, on somebody’s phone, while you are asleep.

Taking the booking. Taking the order. Showing the room. Holding the price you set.

Your hardest working team member. Your 24/7 host, server, and cashier.
